Restaurant Review – Barbados

A lot of our positive restaurant experiences have occurred when we end up at places by mistake.
We met my friends Tessa and Warren in Gordon’s Bay for lunch while I was in Cape Town. They had suggested another restaurant but when we got there it was closed and only opening about 30 minutes later and we weren’t up for the wait.
So David and I walked across the road to Barbados. They were open and had a lot of items on their menu I could eat – which is always a huge bonus for me.
All four of us, and Tessa’s son, enjoy a good meal. So there was much discussion about what to have – the ribs or the half a chicken or the trinchado or the espetada. It is a Portuguese restaurant so everything had some sort of spicy-ness to it.
Eventually Warren and I settled on the ribs, Tess and Zac each had half a chicken and David had the trinchado. While mine was delicious, I think David chose the best. Dipping my potato wedges into his sauce was sheer indulgence and pure pleasure.
We all literally ate our food down to the last bone.
The prices were very reasonable, surprisingly so for a tourist town in Cape Town. The entire meal cost R399 and it was really 5 adults and we all had something to drink, David had beer and I had a glass of wine (that I think was 98% alcohol).
Our waitress was friendly, helpful and super efficient. The vibe was relaxed and the décor pretty simple and standard for a restaurant on the beach. The toilets were clean and all in working order (another thing few restaurants get right).
I will definitely be going back there to order my own bowl of trinchado.
