Men are not a career

‘Men aren’t a career, you know. A man isn’t your life’s work, however much he’d like to be.’
She said ‘Can’t a man give you something to believe in?’
‘No.’
‘Margie -’
‘I’ll amend that,’ Margie said. ‘The answer’s yes, if it’s yourself’
This is taken from Joanna Trollopes Friday Nights.
It is a conversation between one of the main characters, Paula an older colleague of hers, Margie.
Such a simple statement ‘men aren’t a career’ but one that resonates with me, and I know with many of my single friends. Finding a man, the right man, is a journey. It is a process. A hard one but it should never become something that consumes us. Something we train for, focus on and strive to attain at all costs. It should not be something that adds stress or causes tension.
It should instead be an adventure. Something fun that we do with little or no effort.
And when you are with a man, your aim should be, to be who you are. Not to change or mould or morph into something else. It should simply be, to be who you are.
When you find a man, that man. The one who believes in you completely then it becomes so much easier to believe in the you that you are.

That’s beautiful.
