Search for THE Phenomenal Women
Posted on 01. Feb, 2010 by Laura in General, Giveaway

Female2Female will be running their first competition this month, where you have to do a little more than simply leave a comment.
We are looking for a Phenomenal Women. We all have women in our lives who have achieved something phenomenal or have impacted our lives in a phenomenal way – our aim is to honour those women.
The way its going to work is you nominate your phenomenal women (you can nominate more than one) by leaving a comment or mailing me at laurakallmayer@gmail.com but please add a valid reason why you are nominating them. If you have a blog then you can even dedicate a blog post to that person as your nomination – just remember to add your link at the bottom of this post. I want to know that they have done/achieved etc that makes them phenomenal to you – it can be anything from being there for you or surviving a trauma or setting a business or following their dream or simply just being an awesome friend. Ideally I would like a little more than one sentence.
We will then choose a list of 5 finalist – based on both the amount of nominations and the motivation that is given (which is why it needs to be a good one). The winner will then be chosen from there through a vote.
The rules are simple:
- Winner has to be South African.
- Competition ends 28 February 2010.
- The winner must be willing to be interviewed and submit a picture for the article.
The best part is we have some amazing prizes.
Leigh-anne will be giving an aromatherapy back, neck and shoulder massage AND a Tranquil Body Treat hamper to the value of R200 to a Gauteng winner.
Robyn will be giving a body massage should the winner be from Cape Town.
Nicci will be doing a card reading AND a choice of a bracelet, necklace, earrings or faerie/angel key ring. (The reading can be done via email and Nicci will carry the cost of the postage for the jewellery)
Jeanette will be doing a 30-min shoot for the winner – they will be able to choose what kind of shoot – a boudoir/family etc.
Natacha has offered the same package as Jeanette should the winner be in Cape Town.
Tanya will be making a bracelet/necklace set for the winner.
ExMi has offered a hamper of Body Thrills to the value of R200.
The winner will also received a gift pack of fun goodies from Matildas for both you and your partner to enjoy!
Our very stunning badge was created by Tanya – thank you very much.
If you would like to add to our list of sponsors then please mail me.

I hereby nominate Miss Sheena Gates for various reasons:
- She promised cuter puppies the world over.
- She has faced things that no one should ever face in her life and come through a stronger person without ever losing her smile or her heart.
- She is the mother of an angel.
- She started up and runs Nerdmag amazingly well and lets me blabber on over there.
- She is one of the nicest people you’d ever hope to meet (as long as you’re not an absolute dick to her)
- Has a wicked sense of humour.
- Has the ambition, strength and will-power to do whatever she wants to do and has just landed herself a job doing just that.
- She has made herself a serious SA interwebs celeb
- She has lovely boobs.
- She promised cuter puppies (this is an important factor)

This is my official nomination for Wenchy for the above award.
She is phenomenal because she is real!!Real in everything she does and in every interaction she has with everyone around her.
Just for that she needs all the praise and gratitude of everyone she comes in contact with making a difference in so many good ways in all their lives.
Love her!!!

Angel (www.angelsmind.co.za).
Being a single mom for 16/17 years to an ADHD son – total respect. She is also one of the sweetest, kindest, nicest people I know, who sends me random texts to find out how I am. Plus, I actually don’t know of one person who doesn’t like her.
Having said all that, I don’t think she really needs to win or get these prizes because her happiness with the Glugster is the ULTIMATE prize. And no more than she deserves.
Lady, seriously you are my inspiration.

I would like to nominate Laura.
Sometimes we wish that we could be someone else… secretly, because they seem to have it all. There were days while reading through her blog that I thought… I am so glad I am not her.
We all have our battles and inner demons that we fight… some days are easier than others. What distinguish the phenomenal people from the rest; is their ability to wake up every morning and just carry on. Their battles are sometimes a tad more extreme and what amazes me is that they just take it in their stride. They cry; but wipe away the tears. They throw tantrums; but apologize; They smile; even though their souls is dying inside… they always just snap back like an elastic.
Since varsity, the following book has been read at least three times a year… just to put my own being and life’s objectives in perspective. The last two times I have read it I just thought how much this makes me think of Laura. (The Invitation)
“I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear
the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.”
“t doesn’t interest me
who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.”
The person Laura was just when she started her blog (and that is probably the last time I saw her in person) and who she has become through her trails and tribulations, gives me a fuzzy warm feeling deep down … She will be okay. She always will be.
And that is why I think she is so phenomenal. She has changed… for the better… She stands tall and proud and all this despite of what has happened in the past.

I nominate my girlfriend, she is truly incredible in so many things. But she’s hardly online, so this competition doesn’t apply
So in a strong second place, I OFFICIALLY nominate Sheena Gates. She is phenomenal in many ways that I am sure Jon can attest to. But she gets my vote.

I would like to nominate Sheena Gates. As for motivation – I think the lady speaks for herself and says it better than I could! Chick – you rock out with your socks out and I think you’re phenomenally funny and patient (*clears throat* you put up with us monkeys at camping quite well!). In the short while I have had you in my monkeysphere you have made me laugh and appreciate a whole lot of things i had forgotten to think about.

Choosing one to nominate is very difficult (as I can know of several women who are phenomenal!)but one woman stands out for me in her determination and perseverance in a difficult situation. When there is an obstacle in her path she researches and plans her way through it, around it and over it.
That person is Angel. (http://www.angelsmind.co.za)
Angel is my nominee as the most phenomenal woman!

Wenchy nominated Mel (supermom.wordpress.com), and I can’t do anything – only to agree and vote for her!!! Melany is supermom indeed, and is one of my very very best friends. She lives 11.000 km from me. We met only twice – once in SA, and once here, in Poland. We started to correspond when we both studied on UNISA. We do it still, since 1997 or so. Not just ‘correspond’. We simply share our lives. Really. We exchange sometimes 100 e-mails per day, and sometimes just 3 per week. But I know, I really know she is always there for me. She was the first one knowing my husband wants a divorce. She was the first one knowing I want to adopt a child. She was the first one seeing this child – these 11.000 km simply don’t count, if you meet phenomenal woman.
You know, she made me Godmom of her son. And finds ways to make me present in his life, even if he saw me only once – in age of 3 months.
How did she knew he will be soooo much like me? My own son wouldn’t behave more like me probably.
She is just phenomenal. She knew me and this boy suit each other perfectly. She just knew.
I agree, Wenchy – Mel is perfect. She doesn’t judge. Even if I do something what she wouldn’t do (usually she wouldn’t LOL). She accepts it. And gives me all her support.
She is phenomenal. I am happy I met her on my way. My life wouldn’t be the same without her.
And you know, when I think ‘South Africa’, I don’t see zebras or lions, or Table Mountain in my mind. I just see Melany’s face.
Her e-mails are like sunshine and air.
And she made my daughter learning English – just because she wants to talk to aunty Mel one day.
Isn’t she phenomenal?
When somebody needs a help, she just runs. Without thinking and considering. Just runs.
Everyone who reads her blog knows what she did for Kyla lately. Isn’t it fenomenal???
Mel, doesn’t metter what a result of this ‘competition’ will be. For me you are a winner. Always.

I nominate Sheena Gates (www.shebee.co.za) because she knows what she wants and is not afraid to ask for it. And in a world with so many extraordinary people trying to be ordinary, she isn’t – she’s happy to be extraordinary.

I would like to nominate Angel Swemmer (www.angelsmind.co.za). She is a phenomenal women who have a passion for cupcakes and ADHD. She do a lot for ADHD, organizing ADHD get-togethers for support. She have given me great support and advice surrounding ADHD and if it wasn’t for her, I do not know how I would have coped with my son and ADHD.

The fact that I have never met Angel in person yet I am here voting for her is in and of itself, phenomenal. We met through blogging and have grown a wonderful friendship. Aside from her obvious phenomenal achievements as a single mother/sister/ADHD warrior, her positive attitude inspires people to believe in being more of themselves. I think this is the most phenomenal quality anyone could have. To be nothing less than your authentic self in everything you do, I believe, is PHENOMENAL. Good luck, Angel. (And really, your REAL name is Angel – pretty pehnomenal!) xxx
