Blog Challenge – Why my city is better than yours!
Posted on 27. Jan, 2010 by Laura in Challenges
Todays blog challenge is about where you live or where you want to live (within South Africa – or Africa at least)
Simply blog or leave a comment about why your city is better than mine. Photographers if you want to you dont have to write a blog post but rather post pics of your city!
When I first moved to Pretoria I hated it. I hated everything about it. I have been back now, for 4 years and am it has grown on me.
1. There are children who still ride their bikes and skateboards in our street. Many of them ride to school as well. With all the talk of South Africa not being what it used to and kids not being able to be kids, I am glad that in my little corner the children can still play in the streets.
2. The jacarandas. There is no place prettier than Pretoria in Jacaranda season. The whole town becomes a purple heaven. It really is so very beautiful.
3. Traffic (or lack thereof as the case may be). Pretoria isn’t as big as Joburg so we can get from one point to the other relatively easily and without going on a highway so it makes traffic tolerable.
4. Pick n Pay Hypermarket Faerie Glen. I can not explain to you how this shop has a deep and lasting impact on my life. It opens at 8h00 and closes at 19h00 and I can get pretty much anything there. I have not found a shop anywhere that can compete with this PnP in terms of convenience for me.
5. The university. I work in the middle of the university. I am surrounded by hostels and an entrance on one side. I love it. I love the vibe that comes from being around students.
6. Its Blue Bull country. Even though I am not a Blue Bull fan, I will admit that there is something special about living in a town that lives and breathes for their team. I have watched with pride as the Bulls did their drive by after winning the Super 14. It is infectious.
7. Zita Park. This is the coolest place to take the kids. There is a swimming pool with a slide, jungle gyms, merry-go-rounds and lots of grass for them to play in. It makes for very relaxed and chilled times. I have yet to find a park that equals this one.
8. The weather. We have awesome weather here. We don’t have the wind of the Western Cape, the humidity of Natal or at the moment, the rain of Joburg.
I have added a linky thing below. So if you blog about it – just add your name and the link below. Dont forget to also add the challenge badge to to your post!
